I am down a pound as of this morning. I have had a few swings down and then rebounds since Saturday no weight was higher than last week but as of yesterday I was 1.2 pounds lower than this morning. However, today is the day I am doing this so I have entered the one pound loss.

I am traveling today. I drove 6.5 hours today with a few stops on the way so basically was in the car from 9am until 5:30. I am definitely tired! I had breakfast at home, a date square, tea, fresh pineapple, an apple, a mandarin orange and stopped for a roast beef sandwich on rye. I managed not to choose a variety of high sugar go to foods that I often have when I am driving. However, I figure I have about 200 calories available for supper tonight. To my surprise the air BnB that I rented doesn't have an actual kitchen so no stove and no kitchen sink. I can't see making oatmeal tomorrow morning so I will need to stop somewhere for breakfast. It is a two hour drive tomorrow to see my girlfriend. After lunch I will drive 1.5 hours to the city. Tomorrow looks like a long day!

My plan while I am away from home this entire week, is to choose the best choice of the options available. So fruit instead of a peanut butter marshmallow square - that sort of thing (one of today's choices!). I have lots of situations ahead where food is going to be provided for me. I will need to make careful choices.

I am disappointed to be up by 0.6 pounds. I averaged over the week 1.5 pounds less. My eating yesterday wasn't particularly high or crazy. I did consider stopping for ice cream and chose not to. (The childish part of me figures I should have now!)

What was different yesterday was it was a highly physical day. I started the morning at 5 am. After doing my household chores and having an oatmeal breakfast, I weed-eated for 1.5 hours then I came in for lunch. I had a lovely salad with all my garden veggies and a can of herring. Back outside this time parking out back where I had some big pieces of wood/trees to load onto the truck. About half a pick up truck full. Some of it was incredibly heavy. Then back up by my garage where I got my little electric chainsaw going to chop up the big pieces so they could fit in the truck box and added some more wood/trees that I had up by the house. The truck was full to overflowing. Drove it to the landfill where I unloaded it all. This took nearly 3 hours to do. Came in and made supper with some microwaved potatoes, two poached eggs and a bunch of stir fried vegetables. Had a granola bar. Then dropped soup off at my sister's and went to town for some groceries. Day ended at 8 pm. And the result on the scale... a gain of 1.2 pounds over yesterday!

This week was an ordinary one with water hauling, mowing the lawn, some computer work, lots of time at my father in law's. Next week I will be checking in early (Thursday) because I am gone for a week driving to Drumheller (8 hours) then to Calgary (1.5 hours) then to Edmonton (1.5 hours) and home again (6 hours). I will be seeing my girlfriend with early Alzheimer's, going to a provincial meeting on Cancer, doing a preventive doctor visit around skin cancer, and city stuff. I will be home in time for the next garage sale. Very busy!

I have gained 0.2 pounds since my last weigh in which was 10 days ago. I weighed in early last week because I was heading into the city for the International Blues Festival. I left Thursday and came home on Monday. On Tuesday my granddaughter moved into her dorm room at the university. I went along. All of this meant I was eating in restaurants and although I was tracking my food on this app it was mostly my best guess. Likely somewhat inaccurate. I am showing an average of 1201 calories per day. 1210 is my high end so the 0.2 pound gain is somewhat in the zone.

September is my 'new year' as far as goals go. It is a hangover from being a teacher! This year I plan to take hold of the weight loss again. My sister has been particularly successful this past year- she lost 30 pounds and is within 4 pounds of her ultimate goal. The two of us have been weight loss buddies for decades. Today I discussed with her the nuts and bolts of what she has been doing that has been so successful for her. She had shared throughout the year but this time I took literal notes!

The takeaways:

She needed to set a multi-month goal to better track the big picture. She did it in 16 week chunks with the goal of losing 10 pounds in that time. She thought the goal was laughably easy. In fact she lost 10 pounds in the first chunk and a bit less in the next two chunks. What she found is that she wasn't swinging from highs to lows but rather staying steady with losses and seldom a gain.

She is literally eating all day long. She has a substantial breakfast starting at 7:45 that she noshes on until 9am. She has hot tea going on throughout the day - she has two thermoses made up for work. At 11 am she has 2 cups of a variety of raw vegetables for a snack (root vegetables in particular like turnip or kohlrabi and carrots with other veggies added in). Noon a lunch of around 200-250 calories. An apple around 3, 50 calories of protein around 4, an orange around 5 then at 6 supper of around 350-400 calories with a fruit snack about a half hour after supper and finally about a half hour before bed she has 10 grams of chocolate and 1 jujube and 3 jelly bellies!

I will be adapting her eating plan to what works for me however I recognize that it has worked well for her so it is worthwhile emulating!

This past week as I referenced above was about enjoying some music and settling in my granddaughter. My rental unit is finally completed and all units are rented! I have been putting in days at my father in law's. My daughter and her friend are putting in even more time there and are making great in-roads. It is a relief to see some progress. It is unbelievable how much stuff he has. Truly it is impossible to describe - must be seen to be truly believed! Tonight I am attending a wedding dance for a former student of mine. She is 56 and this is her first marriage! I am so happy for her.

I am weighing in early in that I normally do this on Saturday. I am leaving tomorrow for 5 days so I won't be checking in at the 'normal' time. I am down 0.8 pounds since last Saturday. I have been in the zone 2 days and below the zone for 2 days. On average I am 15 calories per day lower than my low end of the zone.

I did a number of things to accomplish this. On Saturday as the Garage Sale was in full swing (truly no gap in people and they just kept coming!) there wasn't an easy way to get some lunch. My sister had packed two protein bars and gave me one. On Sunday it was a similar situation. My daughter was feeling overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people so I suggested she could get me lunch and anyone else who wanted something to eat as a break. She got me a Subway salad with roasted chicken. Monday I was home all day recuperating by mowing my lawn and catching up on all the things I had let drop! So food wasn't an issue. Yesterday I ate my standard Turkey sandwich and date bar for lunch. Breakfast and supper I have kept as the same for the last few weeks.

I am off to the International Blues Festival in Edmonton for the next 5 days. It is a 6 hour drive each way so I go a day ahead and leave the day after which makes it a bit longer but way more pleasant! This Festival is something I did with my husband. He was a major Blues fan. I love to dance to the Blues so it worked out! I am going with a friend who is also a widow. She loves dancing too. The line up is great!

I have lost 0.4 pounds this week. To be honest I believe this isn't entirely correct. I ate well over my 'window' last Saturday. The other 6 days was in the window 3 times and under the window 3 times. Overall my average including the Saturday was slightly under the lowest end of the window. So why such a low loss?

I believe it has to do with the same two things as last week. My sleep has been poor - many nights I have slept well for 4 hours and nothing afterwards. I am not usually such a poor sleeper. I am going to bed exhausted and over tired. The second thing is my supper. I have been eating when I get home which has been around 8 pm. As soon as the dishes are done and the house is tidy I am dropping into bed with lights out around 9-10pm. This isn't ideal. My usual pattern is supper around 5:30-6:00 and lights out at 9-10pm.

Unfortunately for me this pattern is going to be the case for the next while. In the meantime, I know what I am eating and eventually it will show on the scale.

This week has been incredibly busy. My rental units are coming along. If all goes according to plan my renter will be back in next Thursday. My drywaller (and friend) lost his 18 year old niece to a car accident. Tough loss for their family. I have kept up with my own self care - Book Club, electrolysis (chin hairs!), mammogram (10 years since I got Breast Cancer and all clear!), and a haircut. At my father in law's we put in a hard push to get ready for the first garage sale. We donated to Sagatawa (school supplies), the Art Hub (craft supplies for the kid's program) and the Fairview Women's Shelter.

Meanwhile we were stocking shelves and getting prices on the items. The Christmas stuff was so massive and overwhelming we offered it for people to donate what they thought it was worth to the Peace River Women's Shelter. It covered the whole sunken living room with almost no walk space, the kitchen table and a short hallway! To think we had already donated Christmas items to the Nampa Daycare, The Senior's Drop In Centre, The Curling Club, Fairview Women's Shelter and the Grimshaw Library! When the garage door opened yesterday at 4 we had people literally lined up to get in. They swarmed in and we remained busy for the 4 hours we were open. Spent 2 hours re-stocking. I got home around 11 pm. Leaving in about an hour to finish re-stocking.
