How disappointing. I knew this week wouldn't be stellar (I *would* start right before a barbecue weekend), but I did exercise moderation. I was expecting to hold serve, not go up four pounds.

I see people "indulge" the way I did all the time - a cookie after dinner, an extra half serving of those potatoes - and they're no worse off for it. I gain four pounds.

Seriously. If eating the way I did this weekend causes me to gain that quickly, then there's no hope. Yeah, it wasn't rabbit food and diet air, but I ate light servings, minus a small extra here and there. It was a party after all. This sucks.

Honestly, you might think it's small stuff but those bites, licks and tastes add up. They are my biggest downfall. Those calories and carbs add up big time. It's why many of us are overweight. If you bite it, write it. When I snack on stuff I don't write down, I don't lose or the scale goes up. When I don't snack, the scale goes down. Having a cookie once a week won't make you gain. But once you start with an extra helping of this and a taste of that, it can get out of control. This is about getting healthy and taking control. We will never be able to stop watching what we eat. I am resigned to it. This is a lifetime commitment. You can do this!
