I am always amazed at how we as humans instinctively know what we should eat, yet we rarely follow this instinct. I am guilty as the next person. I have a sweet tooth and sugar is my nemesis. Is it any wonder we are constantly at odds with our instincts with the foods we have available to us? Not only that, but because of poor nutritional advice that began in the 1970's, we are always in search of the next best diet that will give us what we want. The super model body!

Weight loss is not a complex science like we have been led to believe. It is a very simple process. Eat natural, unprocessed foods and maintain some sort of activity. Deep down inside we all know this to be true. As someone said "weight loss begins in the kitchen". That couldn't be more true. A healthy body will naturally crave activity. It's how we are wired. Modern food and science have created a serious mental block for most people who consume a western diet. We are so at odds with nature that we fail to see the truth. We want a magic pill that will drop the weight, make us all super sleek with no effort. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't work that way.

Look at it this way. No one woke up one morning having gained 150 pounds overnight. It took years of poor eating habits to gain that weight. Why do we think it should take overnight to lose it? And just as with weight gain, there are days where you gain and days where you lose. Did you weigh yourself every day as you gained weight? No. You did it once in a while just to see if you were still gaining. So now you are fixated on this scale as you want to see it go down. Toss the scale. How do you feel? Are your clothes looser? Are you eating the right foods? Weight loss is for the rest of your life. It is not a few months and then you go back to your old habits. You have to change for ever, not for now. So don't be that guy/girl who is obsessed with the scale. Be obsessed with eating and exercise. Be obsessed with how you feel and how you look. Your sanity will thank you!

"Why do we think it should take overnight to lose it?" I don't "think" it but I sure do "WISH" it, lol....

Good post. I do weigh pretty much daily though. Not so much because it's an obsession, but more as motivation to keep on the right path. You are 100% correct about the daily ups and downs and I know they are there. I don't let them demotivate or disenchant me. I do watch the scale for trends though and adjust what i'm doing and eating to match those trends.

It's easy for me to post things like this, but a whole other ball game to stick to it! I write things to remind myself of what I need to do. It keeps me motivated and on track.

so true. But I have witnessed two members weighing themselves daily and achieving a great unbroken downward line towards their success. the daily weigh in kept them focused with their eye on the prize, daily! That is a formula that would not work for me, but it's not to be discarded for some. (It's like looking at the stock market) lol

I actually check mine every other day. I do know some people get obsessed with it, which isn't really a good thing.

After I started my diet I didn't step on the scale for six months, when I did I was down over 100 pounds. Ignore the scale, if you're doing what you need to be doing the weight will come off. Of course you have to know what it is you need to be doing to begin with, though.

I like to weigh every day. It keeps me on track, whether I'm trying to lose or maintain. I use an app (Libra) that smooths the ups and the lows and gives a trend prediction.

I'm a data hog. I like to weigh every day, it keeps me on track, especially since I use a "cheat night or re-feed. I'll slack if I don't. My wife on the other hand won't weigh, she uses her clothes fit.

Right now as I am just starting out again I am weighting myself everyday. Once I get in my groove I will go to twice a week. Right now I need to scale to remind myself not to fall back but to move forward.
