Hi everyone - I pray for the safety of those in the area with the hurricane area.

I am not feeling well today (scratchy throat, cold) but I went to my workout. Today was first day of legs with higher reps. I got a little shakey during the workout and kind of pooped out a little.

I took my blood sugar afterwards and it was too high - 218 - which concerns me. I have type II diabetes and I believe that my insulin sensitivity is still bad. So I think what is happening is that I am working out, I need energy, sugar is released into my system for my muscles to use, but my muscles can't use it properly so it just sits in my blood. I don't really know what to do about this.

I took my Januvia and now I am 1.5 hours post workout and it is 156. I expect by noon it will be normal.

I am wondering if I need to get up a little earlier, eat or drink something light and take my Januvia before I workout. I will try that for Friday and next week and see if it makes a difference.

I was watching Dr.Jason Fung You Tube video again on reversing diabetes and it can take several months of intermittent fasting to improve insulin resistance. I am not going to take insulin to bring down the blood sugar b/c that will only make the problem worse - it will improve my blood sugar but it won't improve the diabetes (the insulin resistance).

It's a confusing problem. You may ask why I don't just go to the doctor. Well, most doctors are trained to just tell you to take your insulin. They don't have a clue about intermittent fasting or any of the concepts in Dr Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code. It feels like you are in a boat without a paddle just trying stuff.

I feel I am being very careful - I am monitoring my sugars and eating properly. My BS is not staying consistently high (over 150) so I think I am not doing any damage to my body.

What do you eat/drink before a workout? Does anyone else have experience with Type II Diabetes and blood sugar rising post-workout?

Thanks everyone. It was as I expected. 8:35, 1/2 hour after a good weight training workout BS = 214; 9:29, 1 hour after taking Janumet BS: 156; 12:41, 3 hours after taking Janumet BS: 81. I knew it would recover without insulin. OK next workout I take the Janumet 1/2 hour before the workout with something. I gotta figure out what.

I've been doing IF since May, and have noticed a big improvement in insulin resistance. I've not gotten into full-blown diabetes, so can't help you there. I hope you get things figured out.

I'm type II. Rising blood sugar, post workout is the opposite of what I would think should happen. I don't excercize so consider this before anything else I might say. I do use insulin. (30 units Lantus & 1.6 units Victosa) What is your fasting bs when you wake up? What do you eat before the workout? BTW, I don't understand the science or the term "insulin resistant". You are supposed to be able to control bs with diet and exercise so it doesn't make sense the result you are getting. I like the experiments you are trying, please keep reporting your findings as I am very interested. I haven't been able to find the motivation to excercize. I have more excuses than you would believe. I know I'm no help to you, but was compelled to respond. You are a big help to me.

Hi Sarah - I will keep updating. My fasting blood sugar when I wake up is 100 - 130, regardless if I take my insulin or not. It could be 90 when I go to bed and it raises due to "Dawn Effect" which everyone, diabetic or not gets. It's just worse for a diabetic. Normally if I take a leisurely walk it seems as though my excess BS gets burned off but when I do heavy duty exercise, like weight training, it goes up. I read about this - it says when you have a stress on the body the blood sugar goes up for everyone, it's just more pronounced in a diabetic. You can watch Dr. Jason Fung's Youtube videos to understand insulin resistance more. It is hard to explain and I don't want to write something incorrect. I had to watch it several times to understand. He has a good video on how to reverse type 2 diabetes "naturally". I think I will start tracking the info so that we can see if the blood sugar fasting, post exercise, etc. improves as I lose the weight. As Mskestrela said, IF has helped her a lot. I am currently doing 3x a week IF. But it's only been 1.5 weeks so I don't expect a lot of change yet!

I hope you get this figured out soon. Just seems crazy that exercising would raise your BS. My type 2 has reversed after losing weight and I am so grateful!
