The first step towards better health I took was in a June day 2023, when I decided that I was done with the unhealthy lifestyle I had become comfortable with and that the muscle atrophy I acquired from a two year battle with cancer was what was actually killing me, and I became a member of FS and joined a fitness center. I was 445 pounds, my calorie intake was insanely high, and the first day I had a hard time getting on the treadmill, consequently barely able to walk 5 minutes on it...

This is the fifth month since I made the conscious decision to take control over my overall health and I am very pleased to have gotten good at following my recommendations for calorie intake, I have lost 30 pounds, but even better, I can walk for more than 35 minutes at a slow pace... 👍😀.

Today I am going to start trying the 16:8 IF protocol, not only for the weight loss component, but because the research I have been doing on it suggests it is good for assisting in cancer treatment. I don't know if that is true, but I believe in the power of the placebo effect, and I am going to believe it will be good for me 😃!

Hi Chokog! For the past year I have been doing three meals, no snacks within about a 9 hour window. What benefitted me most at the beginning was really establishing some “rules” around food. Like no in between meal snacks, no eating in the car, no eating while watching tv, meals were sitting at the table. I find having three meals keeps me satiated better and it also cuts down on food noise. Less time preparing, cooking, thinking, cleaning up and just less time in the kitchen. 16:8 is great! It gets you out of the night time snacking habit. Eliminating unhealthy habits and building healthy habits is what it is all about. Great progress!!!

Congratulations on losing 30 pounds! I usually do IF,not eating after 2 or 3pm. I don't normally eat what most people consider "meals". My main goals are staying within calorie allowance and getting enough protein.

16:8 is a beautiful way to prevent overeating, and let your insulin level fall so you can burn fat. I agree with honeebuns about establishing rules around eating. I do eat in the car, and in front of the TV, though 😄 I eat up to three meals in my window, everything I put in my mouth is a meal in itself or part of a meal. I measure and log everything I eat unless I'm on vacation (I stick with 16:8 if possible and am firm with the 3 meals rule). If you extend your fasting, it will help. Try 16:8 Day 1, then skip breakfast Day 2 and do 18:6 with two meals. Work up to a 22 hour fast with one meal on Day 2. Once you can do that, eat nothing except water, black coffee, and tea on Day 2, and 16:8 on Day 1. The weight will fall off. This is ADF (Alternative Day Fasting..).

You guys are amazing! I am learning so much from all of you! LadyinDenim, I tried what you said, and I am on a 18:6 protocol mostly at the moment. I find it easy hunger wise, but I am having hard time coordinating it with my life on the weekends, particularly church... My fast ends right after I get to church, then everything happens and I am lucky if I can fit in one meal... What should I do not to make it so stressful?

Chokog, I suggest being flexible with the times and adapt. On Sundays, you can have a longer window. If you enjoy breakfast, factor in a breakfast before church. After church, you may wish to dine with friends, then remain open to the option of a third small meal. Eating out poses a problem: to log or not to log. I usually do my best to guesstimate my food intake at restaurants and log it. If it feels too hard, take a break from logging on Sundays. Keep to the three meal a day rule 🙂 That still gives you a nice eating window of 8-10 hours on a day you feed your spirit ❤
