I've been struggling with weird bouts of hunger lately. Here's an example. This morning, I didn't even want to eat at all, I just wanted a protein shake which fills me up for hours, but I had to go to a business breakfast, so I ate very reasonably. But after a breakfast of eggs, minor fruit and some bacon, I was STARVING. Like, right before you eat Thanksgiving dinner starving.

What is that about? The food woke up an appetite I didn't even have before I started eating. It makes me regret having breakfast at all. It makes me want to call BS to all that (insert whiny voice here) "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" crap I've heard all my life (I know it's important, but it's easy to get pissed off when I'm trying to do what's right and it backfires on me!).

I drank four glasses of water in case I was just thirsty. I wasn't. I came home and just stood in front of the open refrigerator until my fingers got cold. I just had to suffer.

I'm being honest here. This incident makes me wonder if I should throw conventional wisdom out the window and listen to my body and only eat when I'm hungry. How stupid is it to eat when I'm not hungry, only for the eating to then make me hungrier than ever and then after a 700 calorie breakfast, have to suffer for hours afterwards with pangs of hunger? I'm hating life right now because I've eaten more than half my calories for the day and it's only 10:30AM. This is just perfect. Might be time for primal scream therapy!

Sometimes eating makes me hungrier, especially when I start out with eating when I'm not hungry. It's best to eat most of your calories during the day, but if eating breakfast stimulates your appetite, you might be better off with a light breakfast. I do better on a light breakfast myself. You are right - only eat when you're hungry, because it can backfire.

I'm like a baby bird in the morning...mouth open, screaming, feed me, feed me! High protein is my answer... a couple of pieces of bacon{crisp) and a piece of Land O Lakes cheese. If the urge is still to eat I might have 1/4 Atkins Peanut Butter Bar with a hot cup of coffee. This holds until lunch, which is still mostly high protein. Like today Lunch will be a Taco salad, salsa, sour cream and chips on the side. The afternoon snack consist of Pork Skins and a couple of Bub 55 Select.beers.They only have 1.9 carbs. Lowest of all beer. All food is eaten before 5:30. Works for me...good luck, you will find the right combos for youself.

I wrote a long comment and it got lost because I had opened FS in another tab and logged out of that one. Anyway. Crap I'm old and can't remember what I said. LOL...I think it went like this. No matter what WOE you choose there will always be those times when your body says FEED ME NOW. That is probably when it is definitely needing to add more nutrition or possibly you are at a "free food" function and the senses are taking over. Whatever, when you drank a lot of water that probably saved you from doing more damage. Plus you had eggs and bacon which is lots of great protein but you might not have had large enough portions. All in all keep on keeping on and you will do wonderful - you are here with us aren't you?

The breakfast stuff has never worked for me, did dat last year and i gained about 13 pounds eating breakfast always males me hungrier the rest of the day.
