What is dry fast?

I have seen videos on youtube about dry fasting, they stay all day at home like if you are sick to prevent dehydration, if you want to try it , I wish you good luck, just be careful 😀

Thanks @mjgh06. Yep, I have read that article earlier. It is helpful. But there is lot of disparity in people's stance. They directly reject the benefits and try to convey the disadvantages vigorously. This leaves the faster perplexed.

So, without getting myself in trouble (I hope), I don't understand why someone would benefit from purposely becoming dehydrated? Please explain, thnx!

@keilin yes. I was at home during all those dry fasting days and mostly stayed in the bed. Just took 5-min-walks every hour or so to get out of strenous times and stay alert and motivated.

Focus, tune out noise, listen to your body and pay attention to results. My SDF starts tonight after my logged liquid fast completes. As I type this, I am walking in 94 weather in Boston with only 44 calories in me. I got fat on my body, I got fuel.

@Reader1 I believe that is because dry fasts are well known in certain religious populations but not really known in the general public. At least that has been my experience. Similar to the doubts and uproar about Keto or Atkins when the public first began to become aware. Every organization and general population went crazy even though both began as medically researched by physicians. Until something is seen as mainstream you will always have those doubts.

@patriciabows Dry fast is a type of fast where you don't consume any solid foods or liquids. Not even water. You don't eat or drink anything for a given period of time.

What is the purpose of this??? Sounds extreme and dangerous....just my opinion, but I don't do fasts at all and have never found a reason for doing so, but good luck!!!

@Steven Llyod Well, the benefits are: extreme weight/fat loss, autophagy - regeneration/repair of cells at the highest level, and many more.

@Keilin-4 None of my family just stays at home during the dry fast. They do less activity true, but it is not something that isolates them. I haven't done a dry fast in a while but I used to and would go about my day as normal. A little unknown fact about fat - ketosis - dry fasts is that the body has a wonderful way of caring for itself. Along with creating ketones for ketosis, during a dry fast the fat will create 'water' for the body as well. The body functioning process is really amazing.

You weigh 165lbs - not obese - I totally understand fasting but as others said why the need to avoid water and/or electrolytes? Please share the point of a dry fast.

@Ches right! I am determined but my family is also determine to make me skip extreme measures. They are fine with water fast. Fat is fuel. Just worried about gall stones or kidney stones thing. Doesn't sound like a great package if it is included with the benefits. Uncertainty! I will soon be in NYC for the fall semester. Currently at home in India.

Mgjh06 it's great to know what, thank you 😀, now I want to try it too , I was a little scare to do dry fasting, I don't want to die trying to be fit haha

@kathryn1992 yes, it does sound dangerous. But most of the fasters go into it as they perceive that benefits outweigh the dangers.

@HCB Yep. Without water or electrolytes, the benefits are more. Weight/Fat loss is 3 times more than the water fast. That's why I am trying to get rid of the maximum fat to reach normal BMI and then start lifting weights. Although it can be done even right now.

@reader1 - I use Fasting in ALL its forms: IF, OMAD, Hard Dry Fasts, Soft Dry Fasts as tools. I do not use fasts to loose weight. I am / have / and will embrace fasts to fix my body. I do not have any plans of BMI any time soon or in the future. Good luck with your path. Only you can walk it.

@chesgreen very well said. It is the same for me. I don't use fasts as a way to lose weight, although that is a benefit. For me IF, fat fasts, and water fasts are a way to cleanse out toxins. S/H Dry fasts for me are more spiritual in nature that provide additional benefits of cleansing. Maybe just the way I was raised. I feel fortunate that I was exposed to so many religious and cultural belief systems as a child.

@Ches You are right. Other benefits are great too and they are also on my list. Just that BMI one tops the priority for now. Thank you and good luck to you. You are an inspiration. Did you notice any side effects? Like sharp pain in the abdominal area or liver area? I haven't yet.

@Keilin I was also scared and still a bit cautious.
