Wooo! Broke 140 :D

*happy dance time* I didn't think I would ever get to 140.
The last two weeks have been up and down and up and down staying in the mid 140s.

I'm still a little confused about my body fat %.
I've been using different calculators online and they all tell me different things.
Is there an accurate way to tell my body fat % without getting expensive tests?

I don't have a caliper either. I used to have one (lost it due to multiple moves) but I remember I had a hard time using it.

Bodyfat % is best measured with a caliper - Amazon sells them for under $20 - but it is best to have someone experienced measure for you - it can be done by a friend or sometimes simple measure on your own. I have a caliper I use sometimes, but I usually have my gym trainer do it for the official bodyfat %.

our local health club will do one for people for $30. If you are interested and think it's worth it, check out a few places and see if those body fat machines are available to the public where you are. It might be worth $30 every 6 months to a year just to see your progress. It's a great motivator.

I'll have to look and see, I wouldn't even know where to start to find a local health club. I don't have any gym memberships so it's a little awkward for me to go up to a gym and say hey, can you measure my body fat % XD

It does feel awkward, but search local health clubs on the internet and see what comes up, then get a list and call them. Ask if they have Body Fat Analysis machines. IF they say yes ask if they will use them on non health club members, then ask the price and if you can set up an appointment. IF they don't know what you are talking about or say no, then say obviously not, thanks for your help and hang up. Haha.

Eidetiker, there are a few good resources online as to accuracy of the various methods of Body fat measurement...all methods have various pros and cons with the most accurate measurement (DEXA, Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) being the most expensive ($60 - $100+ per test). Calipers and Visual reference will give you a great rough idea of where your BF is at, monthly pictures will enable you to track any personal progress or lack of progress also. Calipers are great for measuring BF changes on the exterior but not so great for visceral fat measurement or changes therein.
