Happy Sunday, everyone! Gotta say I'm loving this retirement gig. Weight seems to be staying steady, although just a little higher than I'd like. Nevertheless, I feel like I'm already so much more active than I was. Shoveled yesterday and hope to go skiing today.
Realizing I need to reel in the snacking, or at least switch to veggies. I'm afraid I'm a champion snacker, especially in the afternoons when my energy flags, and I do have a fondness for chocolate. 😉 it's not as bad as it was at the office, but I could still stand to cut back on that front.
Tried something a little different with tofu last night. Took a well-pressed block and ripped it into chunks instead of cutting it. Made it seem a little less obviously tofu-like. Definitely will do again

Glad you are enjoying the good life. I think I could rival anyone in snacking. It is a problem for sure. Do you just snack on the ripped tofu? I got some at Costco on my trip and I need to dig into it

I really like chocolate crunch rice cakes. Sixty calories and a nice snack. A little protein might help too.

No, didn't snack on the tofu, but certainly could have. I fried it in a bit of oil to brown and crisp it, then added it to a curry. I ate a solid portion, and my husband devoured the rest. Sometimes I'll press it and roast it in the oven with oil, salt, and seasonings. That's pretty snackable. My typical snacks are dried fruit, pistachios, seed crackers, and extremely dark chocolate. Caloric, but could be worse from a health standpoint. I don't typically have cookies, pretzels, chips, etc, in the house, so those aren't often in the mix. I should probably shift a little to fresh veggies and fruit and some roasted edamame

I'm not sold on high protein, AncientHippie, but yes, some protein in the mix is good. I get some from the pistachios. As mentioned in my other comment, I should probably work in roasted edamame more. Did buy myself some cottage cheese, and that's been wonderful with blueberries. My husband also makes Greek yogurt I could probably work in more often

I love chocolate too and am a snacker. Too many snacks.

It's easy to snack too much, Morticia. There's something to be said for sticking to 3 square meals. I stick to really dark chocolate, which cuts down on the sugar. I'm also more satisfied with a modest square of 85-90% chocolate than I am with a larger amount of milk chocolate. Sometimes I just take a medjool date and stuff it with cocoa nibs

I’m incorporating tofu in my eating and like it very much, especially after finding a couple of ways of how to add flavor to it. Yesterday I made it with a garlicky sesame crust—it was good! The only issue is that my younger kid doesn’t like the texture of it.

Agnes -- the wonderful thing about tofu is it takes on whatever flavor you want. Both freezing it or pressing it will change the texture of it, so you might experiment with that. I bought myself a tofu press and love it. I used to have to press it by slicing it and laying it between tea towels between two cookie sheets topped with my cast iron Dutch oven. The press is a lot easier and does a much better job

For veggies,, I like to take celery and dip it into salsa for a snack. I prefer Tostitos though... lol

I got into chocolate hummus with celery for a bit, but it wasn't the best nutritionally, and I could kill a whole tub. I do enjoy a nice reduced sugar hot cocoa in the winter months (about 50 cals), and that has been known to take the edge off. I love that you are retired, I can't wait! Still a few years off.

Curious. Have you made tofu chocolate pudding using an unsweetened cocoa powder & say stevia or some sweetener like that? Maybe alternating between that and a regular dark chocolate bar could help cut calories a bit? And give you more protein to fill you up?
Glad to hear you are enjoying retirement and staying active. ☺️

Kimbie -- I'm not so sure I could go for celery + salsa 🤔 If it works for you, though, great!

Bad Jujugirl -- I've seen recipes for chocolate hummus, but haven't made it yet. It's definitely on my list to try

StormsGirl -- I really don't use the non-nutritive sweeteners at home, although I had a bad Diet Coke habit when I was working. I don't use a huge amount of sweet, though. I've made tofu chocolate pudding, and we liked it, but I prefer chia chocolate pudding. I use 2 tablespoons maple syrup for a 4-serving batch, so not a lot. I've also started making frozen banana "ice cream" some nights. My husband loves it
