I am new to this and still learning. I posted my breakfast this morning and have been drinking water since. I didn't eat the half piece of wheat toast. I gave it to Finley instead. I need to be healthier and lose weight. Any tips will be appreciated.

The best thing I can advise is to eat a well balanced meal within the recommended RDI the app gives you. The first month you should see a substantial loss. Afterwards you'll need to start at least a mild exercise routine. I've read it's better to go slow and steady rather than a crash diet and adapt a healthy lifestyle to maintain the loss.

Welcome to Fs! It’s very hard to live a healthy lifestyle and reduce or gain weight without understanding what you’re putting into your body. It will be a pain at first but teach yourself to “log every lick” every morsel! Go to any calorie counter and answer questions to get a starting idea of how many calories to eat each day. These are called your maintenance calories. Eat more you will gain weight, eat less and/or exercise to burn more and you will loose. Good knowledge is here and friendly folks to support YOUR journey! Be blessed and good shedding to you! 😇

The app started me out at 1800 cals. I selected sedentary at first. I don't suggest eating less than 1200 cals unless directed by a doctor to do so. Your body needs a minimum to function properly and if you go under that it's not sustainable and can set you up for health issues. I've lost 40lbs in 7 months. Losing between 1-1.6lbs per week. Once I lost the first 20lbs I did a recalc in the app and it dropped my cals to 1700. Currently I'm eating 1600. I have 25 more lbs to go. I'll be dropping to 1500 soon. But my BMR is 1379 (what my body needs to function at rest), so I won't ever eat less than that per day. I also track macros (which you can do in this app). I set them to 25% protein, 30% fat, 45% carbs. That puts me just under 100g protein per day. This helps keep me from feeling deprived, and hungry and stopped my sugar cravings and need to binge. I don't usually hit 25% protein but I try not to go under 20%. I also started exercising more after I dropped some and I've slowly built up to weight training and some cardio. I don't exercise more than 1 hr per day. 5-6 days a week. But I was able to recalc my calories to low active when I did this. It allowed me to eat more calories a little longer before I had to drop them down again, as you need to as youbget closer to goal.

One reason I'm trying to lose slower is I hope that I'll be more toned and have less loose skin. Plus if I eat too few calories my metabolism slows down and I hit more plateaus. So taking a slower approach has been more manageable for me and helping to retrain myself to eat more balanced. Something I think I will be able to do the rest of my life. Once i hit maintenance I think I'll be able to eat 1800 cals again if i keep exercising how i currently am. The support here is wonderful! It really helps! Welcome, and good luck!

My advise? Be constant but try not to obsess over every gram. It is easy to get fixated at the beginning and then feel terrible whenever you put a pound or cheat once. One more pound is not the end of the world and one cheat wont put you under. It’s what you do 80% of the time that counts. There will be fluctuations and set backs, but if you persist, you will achieve your goal.In the past I was very active and I went from that to 0exercise, now I’m starting to take a walk everyday and feel so much better!!

Welcome Jessica. Day 1 here myself. Great Job, it's a big step going out on-line for something so personal. I did it for personal accountability and tracking on my weight loss journey/lifestyle change and found so much more. There are a lot of wonderful, honest, supportive people on here with amazing stories. Very inspiring. You are not alone. Be patient with yourself.

Best piece of advice, be honest with yourself about it. What works for me is weight logging every day. If I do that, I am significantly more likely to pay attention and stay on track. Also, I went crazy at the beginning to learn how many calories were in what, but that was just the initial phase of learning so I could then go by feel for how much I was eating. Once I got a good grasp of it, I just eat how I feel, without excess. I still enjoy my food and enjoy life. I want to be healthy, sure, but remember also that you can be skinny and healthy while being miserable at every meal. There is no wrong, there is no doing bad. No punishment for cheating, no getting angry at yourself for an uptick in weight.

welcome! every one has given great advice. i would also add that losing weight is not linear - it'll come in spurts at times - but - i like the previous advice given, lose slowly, don't obsess over every gram, find a way of eating you can be happy with (for example i do not deprive myself of anything - i eat carbs, fat, protein every day - often restricting a particular macro, for me, causes me to binge on it - carbs are a great example) - you just have to moderate. have "some" chips not a bag of chips, or one cookie, not a box of cookies, etc. go slowly into exercise - walking is great, the gallon of water a day is great - you will do just fine.

Welcome! I'm new too, been journaling and keeping track of my caloric intake for almost 2 weeks?? Maybe a wee bit less. I count calories in this early stage, trying to keep my meals around 500 calories, I drink between 1/2 & 3/4 gallon of water every day, and I try to get exercise outside a minimum of 3 days a week. Eventually, I hope to gain enough knowledge to be able to estimate how much I'm eating without obsessing about anything. I also don't deprive myself of anything, and choose to have occasional treats and have absolutely no guilt. I want to be thinner yes, but being healthy is my first concern. There is a lot of good advice here, good recipes and just good ideas in general. We gain conviction through one another, and this is a very supportive place to share. No shame! No guilt! We're all here for pretty much the same reasons. :)

Welcome! For me the most important thing has been exercise and being aware of my calories with the help of this app.

What you're doing IS a great start. YOur off on the right foot/path. Just keep making "good" choices, pick nothing but beautiful food/drinks, try to eat all meals @ home, if you can, always do some cardio....At least 20 minutes everyday. Get your heart-rate up to 120 bpm. Have fun above all and enjoy the moment you are in all ways. :)

Keep logging your food honestly and exercise should be included in your routine. You are off to a good start!

Remember, also, the more you work out, the hungrier you will get. Just make wise choices if you do get hungrier. I like to eat air-sandwiches...when I can find them....lol
