My 15 miles became 18.5 miles because a friend and his family appeared towards the end of my walking session. The extra hour gave me time to catch up with him.
He's over 70 years old but has the strength and energy levels of a 30-year-old man. Over the past year, he's been very helpful with my techniques in the gym.
His lifestyle is definitely a nod to clean, healthy living.

Something clicked in my mind this morning, leading me to take a casual 15-mile stroll. I suppose I'm yearning to be outside again. I had no desire to lift weights inside the gym today.
Unfortunately, there are few places to walk in this part of Texas, so I ended up walking in circles for 4.5 hours. I'll be back to 50-mile hikes in no time. I wasn't tired; I just didn't have my CamelBak, sunglasses, or a cap with me. It was a spur-of-the-moment activity.

I succumbed to my sugar addiction (on purpose).
Over the past 10 days, I have had 5 jumbo watermelons. That's a lot of sugar. During this time, my strength levels increased significantly. Instead of using ketones (from fat) for energy, my muscles had an ample supply of glucose that my muscles could tap into. I need to slowly introduce a few carbs into my diet for a few weeks.
Watermelon season in this part of Texas is about over, so I'm going to get my fill before the season ends.
I deadlifted 445 pounds today. I will be at 500 pounds before the end of the year.

The picture on the left appeared as a memory on my feed today. Two pictures taken exactly one year apart, depicting a 25-pound difference in weight, don’t tell the full story without addressing a few minutes of daily strength training.
Strength training helps you lose weight and keep it off by building muscle tissue. The more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolic rate tends to be. More muscle also helps your body burn more fat than muscle, which is important if you want to lose weight and maintain your strength. Strength training also tightens up the excess skin as you lose weight. I am now at the point where I want to remove all of the excess skin from my body. There is a significant amount to be removed. I will spare you the pictures.
Don't be a slave to the scale. It doesn't tell the full story of what's happening metabolically to your body. In fact, just stay off the scale and follow a solid routine.

You know those horror movies where the black guy dies first? That's what entering the 5th decade of my life was like.
The 50s started off a little rocky, but I've made it to age 59 in almost one piece. It is an accomplishment!
I am throwing caution to the wind as I slide face-first into the next decade of my life.
