I had my starting point physical at my doctor's office yesterday and have a followup next week to go over my lab results. BP = 131/88, sugar = 99, pulse = 91, height = 5'1", weight = 149.5 (which I'm not recording here because I like to weigh myself at home first thing in the morning in my birthday suit).
Overall, Doc said that I am technically obese and out of shape. My cholesterol levels will be more bad news I suspect, but I need to know in order to face the music. If I continue to eat sugar abusively, I will become diabetic. If I continue to eat "bad" fats and desserts, I will have a stroke or heart attack and die prematurely.
BTW, I told him to give me worst case scenarios because I want it real and not sugar coated with best-case anything.
He wants me to eat fresh fruit for dessert (not pie) and walk at least 5 miles a day, plus do aerobic activity 3-4 times a week. No more juice in the mornings, and he wants me to use olive oil only instead of butter. Also wants me to ditch the weekly steak & potatoes and try a vegetarian dish instead. The one thing in my diet he praised was my fatty fish intake of tuna, salmon, mackerel, anchovies and sardines. He encouraged me to expand out to other cuts of fish like cod, trout, monkfish, halibut, grouper and swordfish for variety in my diet. So it looks like my official Diet will be "Pescatarian."
So after my doctor's appointment I hit the supermarket and brought home a big bottle of EVOO and 5 different types of fish to experiment with. I'm actually looking forward to this diet because it is expanding my menu instead of shrinking it!
