I pounced around on the internet and could not find definitive evidence that Roshen does NOT source its chocolate from child labor.

The multi billion dollar chocolate industry could END child labor by paying cocoa farmers a living wage.

Nestle, Mars, Hershey, Cadbury ALL sell us chocolate that has been sourced as a result of child labor. Children as young as 5 are exploited and abused to feed the montrous appetite for cheap chocolate.

Don't buy it. Don't eat it. Don't give it out on Halloween.

Lady, I had no idea! As if we didn't have reason enough before not to eat the stuff, this will do it.

Good to know - and I can refuse to have Halloween candy in my house on moral grounds now, not just because Halloween signals a thigh high mound of mini choco bars wrappers beside my favourite chair and 5 extra pounds on the hips. I'm trying to think of what inedible goodie I can hand out at the door this year. Got it - little mini bags of kale! Can't wait to see the gasps of delight on those little faces. Ah, heck - I'm gonna turn out all the lights and go to the movies that night.

We live out in the sticks, so no little ghosts and goblins knocking on our door. I do buy some chocolate when I know the grandkids are coming. Perhaps I need to investigate into this further too.

Oh, yeah. I am sure the kiddos would love kale chips. That or seaweed bites!

Now that our kids are grown and gone - and no grandkids yet - we have a Halloween custom of turning off the lights and going out for Chinese Food!

We go by the dollar store and pick up mini flashlights or other Halloweeie type toys. Not so popular but it's something different. I know a neighbor of mine that hands out toothbrushes. He is a party downer! lol

There are fair trade chocolates that guarantee ethical growing conditions. They are expensive premium brands, but we don't eat that much of it, so affordable for us, right? It would be nice to be able to eat chocolate without contributing to child labor.

The fair trade chocolates are sourced in Latin America. My co-op used to carry Tazo chocolate from Mexico, but not anymore.

I keep a candy dish on my station at work for my clients, but I've been thinking that once it's empty this time, I'm getting rid of it. Since I know the dangers of sugar, I'm certainly not going to offer it to people I care about! And now that I know about the child labor issues with chocolate, all the more reason. Thanks for the heads up!

Wow, I did not know this! Thanks for the warning. I am thinking of making sugar-free gummy squirms for Halloween. What do you think? I made sugar-free marshmallows from an online recipe a few months back and they turned out great. Only thing is they have no preservatives in them so they have to be eaten quickly. Almost calorie free with the use of the gelatin and sweetener.

Trick or treaters will toss out homemade treats. My dad gives out money ☺

We stopped giving out candy a few years ago for Halloween for a few reasons. Thanks to #TealPumpkinProject, it is getting easier to find nonfood treats for trick-or-treaters. Teal Pumpkin Project was started a few years ago to let kids with serious food allergies (like peanuts) to still participate in what is a beloved childhood activity (memory for most parents) and not put their lives at risk.

I love trick or treating. It is a time when people open their doors to neighbors and give gifts to children they don't even know. So wonderful.

Thanks for the heads up. I buy Falize Dark Chocolate from France, so I'm going to have to check it out. I don't buy, but have a recipe using Lindt chocolate. This really gets you wondering about where our foods come from. thanks again.
