Eh… how many would still goto the gym if they could be strong n healthy without it. They like the benefits from it. Honestly if I could be strong n healthy without lifting. I wouldn’t. Now I enjoy lifting cuz I like the results. Does that mean I genuinely enjoy lifting? Or not? 🤔

I think so! I genuinely enjoy lifting too! Especially before my car accident, when I was strong, lean. I was proud of my accomplishments. Recovery has been a long hard road, with a mix of emotions towards exercise I never experienced before. I still enjoy exercise despite my set backs. Some, like my spouse, didnt originally enjoy exercise or weightlifting, mostly due to inexperience and uncertainty. "Do what you love, love what you do" I think is is play here.

I love lifting! I will admit though it's been a challenge to be motivated while on vacation. I keep telling myself to be diligent but it's a struggle. Habits can be fun if the environment is right is my take away..

There’s some truth to this, but I feel like discipline has to be a part of it too. Discipline isn’t always synonymous with fun, but it is with habit building!

I agree! Discipline is tough when you don't enjoy the task, but when it's enjoyable it's makes it easier. If you don't enjoy a task you are less likely to repeat it. Especially for those like me with ADHD..for example: I hate dusting, I have my husband do the ceilings, and my son does below..

if you completely dislike something you will never develop the discipline to do it long term/forever so find something you enjoy there's so many options available.

Buuuut.. I REALLY don’t enjoy dishes or laundry, but I’ve got no one to help me do them, so I do them anyway! Cuz discipline. And maturity.

Sometimes just changing the environment can make all the difference too even for the same activity . In the case were talking about exercise I hate crowds and being around people for the most part so I would never have been consistent in a regular gym so i made my own. I also still hate running on roads but love running in the woods. Experimenting with new things and for me having a wide variety of activities to do makes all the difference

lol! All great advice, OTB! And so true, guys. But yeah, you couldn’t pay me a billion dollars to be alone in the woods. I love nature, but it’s scary to me, lol.

A lot of people think meditation must be done a certain way but a long walk in a quiet place, daydreaming, watching clouds go by...they all have the same calming effect.

Otb- yes thanks for adding that! Mami- very true... I usually pair music with dishes and laundry. Sorry for not elaborating/explaining well. I still will dust, like my guitars, or while I'm decluttering a cabinet or something.

True meditation can be something that quiets the mind and lessens stress. I always said spending time caring for my chickens is my yoga and walking my dog is my meditation. I also lift weights but I need the accountability of a trainer because I can't say I really love it. What I do love is being strong so I can do any physical activity I want to do without feeling it the next day!

When I was younger & all my body parts still worked, I never really thought of it as exercise I needed to do, I just did it because it was fun; dancing, tennis, swimming, bike riding, walking, aerobics, gardening, fishing (if you don't think fishing on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico is a workout, you haven't tried it). It's quite different now that I'm old and physically limited, but still very important to me.
