How do y'all log calories when you eat out? When the place does not have their calories listed. I ate some of these yummy nachos.

I lgg it by ingredient and approximate eyeball amounts for each, say 30 tortilla chips, 1/4 cup refried beans 1/2 cup taco meat, tomatoes, lettuce....etc

I try to guess approximate portions of the things I can visibly see and then I also tack on quite a hearty of portion of oil because restaurants always bathe the food in oil. I try to over estimate to be safe. Having worked in restaurants I know that the grilled cheese I would make at home with one slice of cheese, 70 calorie-per-slice bread and no butter is made with 170- per- slice bread, 4 slices of cheese and a whole tablespoon of butter.

I don’t count the calories. I use portion control and moderation. I make what I feel is the best choice for me under the circumstances—- if it is really a place I like with foods I font often eat, then I just eat and enjoy, but I DO NOT OVERINDULGE. It’s just one meal in thousands over the course of years.

I have been on maintenance for over two years so sometimes I don't log it and I always allow myself one cheat meal a week and that is usually the one I don't log. However we like to eat out 2-3 times a week so I plan my meals around things I can log if it is not a cheat meal. For example if I get a hamburger or steak usually they list how many ounces on the menu so you can enter it. I try to stick to salads and dressings I can record and not get food items that would be hard to log. The key for me is once a week no harm in not logging but the rest of the time being consistent and mindful of what I eat. It took me to age 59 to learn this as I was a yo yo dieter my entire life and thought I am eating out I am entitled to have anything I want. That is not a good mindset and I had to change it for myself. You will find what works for you!

Make your own put whatever you want to eat in it. Counting all. Much better and healthy.

I just guess and don't worry too much about it. It's just one meal. Yesterday I had a Caesar salad with chicken. Almost everything in the food database shows the name of a restaurant. I found something seemed to be the approx size of the salad I had. Then I added in 3 ounces of chicken breast, just a guess. Also added croutons. The clubhouse bar at the golf course in my neighborhood doesn't provide details.

Try to eat something with known calories. Then add calories for oil since a restaurant will be more likely to add more oil.

I do my best to find something in the pre-existing selections that matches. If I know all day that I'll be out for dinner, I'll do what I can to keep my calories lower for my other meals because it's a guarantee that going out to eat will be a much higher calorie count that normal.

I just guess. There is usually something similar, then I adjust the portion size to meet my estimate.

If I’m logging that day I just find something similar in the app and actively try to overestimate portion size since human tendency is to underestimate. I assume if I do that I might get somewhere close to accurate.

Thank you all for your advice!! @Diane Wider I love making my own!! I make alot of things myself, but sometimes I can't.
