I feel like I am going to vomit. I don't think I am ready for "advanced cardio" but Mel B. thinks I am. So I tried a very low carb diet for a couple of weeks, figuring, "Hey, I'm gluten intolerant. I don't eat bread and pasta anyway!" I had been eating a fair amount of sugar though. So what I liked about the low carb eating was that it completely curbed my hunger. I have trouble with straight calorie counting because I am fricking HUNGRY all the time. Not so much on the low carb diet. I think it probably kept my blood sugar from fluctuating too much. What I did not like about it was that when I would go to lift weights, it seemed that I was getting weaker, not stronger. As in, unable the lift the same amount as the week before. I think that's because one needs to have carbohydrates before a workout. Sooo... I'm thinking on it. I am attracted to the paleo lifestyle. My husband does Crossfit and his trainer recommends eating that way. It makes a lot of sense to me. I'm not sure I'm ready to completely give up coffee(probably never will be) but I like the idea of a mostly-paleo diet. I also think I am only going to weigh myself once a week from now on. I am not seeing results on the scale but I am "feeling" results, mentally and physically. I actually felt my hip bone the other day. I keep telling myself to be patient because I am doing some weight training so I shouldn't expect the scale to move very quickly, but it is terribly frustrating to count calories for 9 months and only lose 8 pounds. Just sayin'.

You are right about the workouts kinda sucking when you're doing low carb. That's why carb cycling works so well for me. I eat low carb through the week & like you said, not nearly as hungry as I was counting calories, but I make sure to load up on the protein. Like almost 200g a day. That keeps the workouts from sucking as bad. One day a week I do a carb-up, which is basically carbo-loading...high carbs, low fat. I jogged yesterday & thought I was going to die, but since I carbed up today, I know tomorrow's run is going to rock! Something to think about.

Yeah, I have noticed you talking about carb-ups on your journals (I'm kind of a lurker, sorry... LOL) and have wondered about it. Do you do that the day before a cardio workout or does it work for lifting weights as well? I did notice that when I went back on the carbs they seemed to give me lots of energy... and I had sadly not noticed that when I was eating a lot of them, like I had become immune to it or something. Anyway, thanks for the comment. I may try carb cycling. It seems to work really well for you -- congrats on all your success!

I try to coordinate it with the days I am scheduled to either run or work a large muscle group, usually legs, but sometimes chest. I'll PM you my schedule so you can see how it all fits together...it's pretty specific, lol. And thanks for the compliment!!

I find if I eat the "wrong" kinds of carbs I get low on energy. But If I eat my whole grains, and not processed stuff I feel great. I try to avoid "white" carbs as much as possible. I don't worry too much about the carbs in my steamed veggies I love to have with my dinner, or the raspberries I have in my fridge waiting for breakfast tomorrow. they don't make me feel laggy. But the peanut butter on white toast does. Funny I change that toast to 12 grain, and I feel great. During my workouts I am for my fat burning range. There are a lot of sites that will tell you your optimum fat burning heartbeat range for your age, weight, height...I work up a decent sweat, and don't kill myself...not ready for those high intensity workouts just yet.

Hmm... yeah, maybe I should actually check my pulse when I'm exercising. I ended up with a migraine from overdoing it the other day. I can't eat bread or pasta unless it's gluten-free so I usually don't have a problem with that, but my problem is with sugar, chocolate specifically. I figured out how to make a chocolate shake with like 12 carbs in it though, so I'm good. LOL.
