Oh good lord! How does anyone say no to sugar around the holidays (or moderate sugar) when everyone is giving sugary treats to eat other this time of year? We usually don't have sweets in the house... eat it or throw it out? What about you guys?

I bundled a lot of that and took it to the neighbors. They distribute (they say) to the kids when they come to visit. (Dropping it at work is another way to distribute it.) Sometimes I get an urge to buy chocolate, then I go to a custom chocolate maker in the neighborhood. Pay $5+ for a small truffle or go without? My cheapness keeps me in line.

Mperry, that's a great idea! Having it all in the house just feels like playing with fire, lol.

Oh me too! I have received lots of delicious treat gifts - the problem is that since we are home for Christmas this year - I also MADE a lot of treats hahaha. So I indulged for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - but then into the freezer went the remainder of the treats. It will be nice to have them during the year for when a craving hits.

It is so hard. I love to cook and bake so that process is part of that giving part of me during any time of the year, but especially Christmas. I try to make things in miniature; small mini loaves of bread, cute little containers of nuts, etc. I toss a lot of stuff, I think everyone does. It is the thought that is important to me.

I totally agree with Erq

Using up what's in the freezer and cabinets is the hardest part of my diet. Even a "normal" sized piece of cornbread can have more calories comparable to my current meal. Whitman's is one of the lower calorie candies, 3 pieces for 160-180 calories. A quick walk for 40 minutes lets me have 3 pieces. (Some boxed chocolates have a serving size of 1/2 candy.)

I like the freezer idea because I actually forget what I have in the freezer, lol... but I'll also try to give some away too... I just hate the idea of throwing stuff away. Hard habit to change. I guess that's why I never leave food on my plate. I don't like wasting things.

Kenna, that's a fun idea! Cute little breads and nuts ♡

Mperry, I can relate. I find it hard going through my freezer and pantry because I know there's things I need to use up so they don't get wasted... and then of course you eat differently than usual (often times more) just to avoid waste.

I have become much more adept at cooking in reality. Not making so many things with the idea of planned leftovers. Pre Covid I was busy going to school, swimming a couple hours a day and hiking with friends. It was nice to have planned leftovers. I still walk or hike everyday but I’m otherwise home and make whatever comes to mind . It is a process.

I say enjoy yourself, the holidays are about celebration and rest. I saw indulge and freeze what you don’t eat

Personally, I would eat the Whitmans , a few pieces and toss the rest.

So far, threw some away, ate a few, hid some in freezer, and then figuring out what to do with the rest.
