"Hello, my name is No". Out with friends again today, and a very colorful cake turned up on the table. Eat, please eat, it's good.. please have some..I hear again and again. Gave in, and had like 1/16th of a teaspoon, and was shocked by what they were eating. Shortening and sugar in-between what looked like 30 layers of crepes.

Oy... came to realize they have no clue. Then a woman there start talking about buying tablets to loose weight. I didn't want to say much, enjoyed my coffee and good chat. A guy made fun of me not eating, and I went on to say there is very little difference between alcoholism and carboholism. Both substances come from carbs. Alcohol is just a fermented version. Got some eyes raised by that.

Anyway, I'll be open to more sport and health focused friends. Hear cyclists meet at a cafe in the mountain somewhere. Have to dig to find out more.

I get very annoyed when people insist. but usually i say no and i leave the plate or snack once without a single bite and never again do they offer me food. Us Hispanics take that as a slap in the face 👋🏻

Perhaps you can use something along the lines of ‘sugar addict’ and ‘health reasons’. If your dr has ever mentioned skipping sugar then you have a valid argument for avoiding extra sugar. Friends should accept this. You can then soften the blow. My response would be something like: Thank you for offering, but I have trouble with sugar and my dr wants me to stay away from all added sugars until we see just how sensitive my body is to them. Please, enjoy your treat! I enjoy watching you enjoy it. I’ll have my own dessert later after I get home. A real friend would listen to that and let it drop.

I have thought about your statement when you contributed Alcohol and Carbs... Spot on correct. I have hidden Honey Bun wrappers in my car like an addict stashing a fix. I always knew that I had a sweet tooth, but it's always been down played because it's not booze or drugs... so it "can't really hurt"... but it does. Just as badly if not worse. I am back on Keto. I had fallen of the wagon for a while and trouble getting back on. These past couple of weeks I have finally felt like maybe I can get on a real track and stay for while. Anyway, Thank you for posting your experience.

It helps. My husband's softball buddies go for coffee. We also have a group of friends who are not food pushers. It's so much easier. To the pushers, my answer is no with a smile. I don't explain.

Right on. isn't it amazing how sensitive our tastebuds become to things like shortening frosting etc? I fully believe that there is a detox process to bad carbs.

My grandfather was an exec at Coca-Cola and they had cases of cokes delivered to the porch like the milk man. The three boys grew up drinking it all day and they all became alcoholics - and died of related causes. Down the generations we all struggle with sugar metabolism and need to watch it around booze.
