I'm tired of Keto aka Atkins. I'm tired of low carb, low fat. I'm tired of diets. I read one weight loss book over the holidays and he basically said weight gain was tied to the advent of processed foods. People have been eating fat and carbs for thousands of years. Somewhere along the way fat became demonized and now carbs. People are chowing down on processed meats loaded with sodium nitrites/nitrates (known cancer causing compounds) while poor old fruits have become evil.

I need to eat clean. I need to eat whole. Less processed the better. I lost a lot of weight the past year and made it through the holidays unscathed. Time to up my eating to lots of fresh fruits and veggies and eliminate their processed descendants.

Good to hear from someone else. It’s basically a one ingredient lifestyle and when one follows that, ALL processed foods are automatically eliminated without it feeling like and diet. It won’t be hard to follow just have to get my mindset focused. Maybe it NOT about how much we eat but WHAT we eat!

Moderation, NankeS. Measure at least until you get the idea of what a reasonable portion is. As my granddaughter said once when she was trying to 3 polishing off the 3rd bowl of spinach that she filled herself. "Gramma I can't finish it all it's too much of a good thing" --she is 18 now and still loves spinach.

This post speaks to me! People will say that fruits are “too much sugar” but what they don’t understand is that it’s a natural sugar. Unlike carbs or sweets. Also if you wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly you are getting much less pesticides/chemicals than what is found in meats, even unprocessed. Any store bought meat is drugged up 😅

My case. Minimal to none processesed food. Lots of raw foods mostly fruits and dairies. Rare meat, very often fish. Lots of legumes. Countless salads. It is six years I eat this way. Not following any kind of diet. My personal route. The way I feel. I can assure you that weight control is calories balance. I get fat when I have a surplus even if it is because of raw fruit. Shortly getting fat when surplus is due to dairy fats. It takes a lot of continuous daily surpluses due to raw fruit carbs to get fat, practically impossible. The only major difference i have found out about carbs and fats. Also I have no illusion that I can die of cancer. Eating clean reduced the possibilities but I know chemicals are everywhere.

If you are insulin resistant / type 2 diabetic (like me) it doesn't matter if fruit sugars are natural - all sugars and starchy carbs cause me blood sugar problems. Almost every processed food has some form of sugar added. I was shocked to find sugar listed in the ingredients on fresh (uncooked) Italian sausage - WTF?

@gz9-gjg Fruit is just one hit to your glycemic load, but there are ways you can eat things in combination that will lessen that load and produce a much smaller hit. Speaking as someone who went from Metformin, glipizide and insulin in Oct 2015 to total diet control in April 2016 and has a standard A1c now of about 5.2-5.6 You get used to balancing your meals and taking into account which carb/sugars process quickly and which things will slow it down. Watch some of Dr. Berg’s YouTube videos on insulin index and glycemic index. Being aware if the load of both makes it much easier to keep your sugars level. 🙋🏻

Most of my weight loss was inflammation. I was on a cardiac diet no salt lost of pills … I started by cutting sugar. then processed foods the weight began to fall off and as I got to feel better I noticed changes in other things .. my doctor is amazed I am OFF ALL CARDIAC and blood pressure meds, I am off insulin. I take a vitamin now that's it. I still refuse to drink water uncooked without coffee grounds. Finally I have gone to a heavy keto influenced diet and omad. I still have weight to loose but honestly starting at 324 I have lost 138 pounds in 6 years and have not ever exercised.

smprowett, my A1c is now 4.9 . When I got my first high / abnormal A1c reading, I took immediate action, lost 35 lbs, and went keto. I maintain the 20g carbs rule because it works for me. I don't often crave sweets, berries typically satisfy me; though occasionally I make sugar-free ice cream.
