It surprises me that there is so much junk food listed on the food searches here. I just typed in "banana" and got a string of banana splits, banana puddings, etc. when all I wanted was to differentiate between my existing "medium" banana choice and the new "small" one hubby brought home.

Not a big deal; I figured it out. But it really did surprise me to see all the different high calorie treats on offer. I guess it's good... if I ate a hot fudge sundae I'd plug it in so that I'd know I'd have no more calories left that day!

Or... maybe I've just created a challenge for myself to find a way to replicate a delicious sundae without ingesting all that sugar. Sugar free ice cream? Can anyone recommend one? Most foods I've tasted that have artificial sweeteners taste too sweet for me.

Um, some people, who are trying to work on themselves, might if offered eat some of those bad, bad, bad food! Bad! Maybe even me. So I think the fact that the junk is here means people are holding themselves accountable. I might eat a chocolate bar, but if I can fit it into my calorie count, I don't feel bad about it. And if it doesn't fit in, then I need to track it so I know where I went wrong.

Not sure what your woe is, but i have been making banana "ice cream" in my "yonanas" machine and it is great. i mix with fozen strawberries (no sugar added) or top wit a little hershey syrup and nuts. But yeah, it always surprises me how much the databases are filled with every kind of junk food.

I think some are doing high fat diets like Keto. Perhaps some of those items are low carb and high fat for that type of diet. I personally have issues with ‘junk’. My family nickname from my aunts all through school was ‘junk food jenny’ lol. I hadn’t eaten much junk before 12 years old. Farm diet so high carb, high protein and moderate fats. When I finally had access to junk well, I went overboard and still do to this day. I ‘treat’ myself daily. Sometimes it’s a candy bar, sometimes it’s a beef jerky and sometimes it’s a handful of almonds. I’m learning to make healthy food my ‘junk’. Half the time lol. I think it’s great that people hold themselves accountable and make themselves count those calories. I think it’ll make everyone who does know exactly where they can cut or add when needed.

Well, in all transparency, I'm delighted that the junk food is there because it's 11:00 pm and I just capitulated. I found some old Christmas candy in the freezer and ate a piece of Dove mint cookie Promises. 44 calories, so I went over my budget for the day by 8 calories, but I don't care. Totally worth it.

I've recently discovered Halo Top ice cream. They have several different flavors and they range from 240 to 360 for an entire pint, so 60 to 90 calories per serving. I can't speak for their other flavors but the red velvet is good.

Well, discovered it by reading other people writing about it and being curious enough to research the flavors and add it to the grocery list. I didn't find it on my own.

I found it at the store. I bought the cinnamon roll flavor. It’s not great but it’s not bad either. Add a bit of low fat chocolate syrup (5cal per tbsp) and it’s great :). I recommend you start clear of the arctic zero cookies and cream. That was so bad only one of my kids would touch it lol. That’s the one who eats anything she thinks is a treat even if it doesn’t taste like a treat but the other two, even my 3 yr old, refused to eat more than one bite.

How about buying the real thing and using portion control concept to just make a small sundae

Whip up some heavy cream, add a bit of sweetener and freeze. Or you can just whip it up plain, freeze and pour diet root beer over for a root beer float.

CarbSmart Ice Cream doesn’t knock me out of Ketosis. When I want a treat, I eat 1 scoop of chocolate with chopped pecans on top.

I make sugar free Ice cream - Carrie Brown has a recipe book of keto ice creams. Not low calorie, definitely just for treats, but really good. She uses xylitol but I substitute erythritol + Stevia + a tablespoon of alcohol. Such a treat!

@Kenna sometimes we just don’t have the carbs or calories left in our daily allotment for the real thing :/. I have issues with lactose so I’m trying different ones to see if there is a low-cal option that I can tolerate better. Real ice cream will have my stomach upset for hours. Love it but regret eating It later lol.

I stir together a bit of half and half, a little sweetener, and a bit of frozen fruit(today was blackberries) and the coldness and creaminess tastes pretty much the same as ice cream. It's very good.

There are almond milk varieties which are delicious!

I make my own full fat yogurt so as simple as just a touch of maple syrup , vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon in a quarter cup of yogurt is delicious.

These are all great ideas, thanks! Portion control is the ideal, but if I have something "real" in the house, my family will eat it. If they think it's "diet" they'll leave it alone. Plus, I really need something sugar free. Fat and dairy don't bother me too much.

Pam, I have a lot of experience in dieting. (age 71) I have tried substituting for the real thing and it just never worked for me. I know it does for some people, like my daughter she substitutes all the time and she does great. I had rather do portion control. I have tried so many diets over the years with Dr. Atkins being one of them and I was very successful. I always come back to portion control, but that is just me, I just do better. We all have to find what works best for us, right? Good luck Pam! Susanne

For some of us, the natural sugar in milk or fruit is simply sugar with a facelift. Artificial sugar is just another chemical, so people like me have to stear clear away from all of the above. When I want a treat, I eat fat bombs with stevia, because they have no effect on my blood glucose levels, and do not lead to cravings.
